A hot meal and a safe place to lay your head at night are two things most of us take for granted. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for some people within our community. That’s where Bethesda Mission steps in.
One of the oldest faith-based charities in the region, Bethesda Mission has been helping men, women, and children during their greatest moments of need. Providing everything from men’s and women’s shelters and a free medical/dental clinic to employment and training services, Bethesda Mission has a variety of ways that volunteers can help.
Each month, volunteers contribute over 1,500 hours of service, from serving meals to hitting the streets with Bethesda’s mobile mission service. If you’re short on time but big on love, the organization gladly accepts monetary gifts as well as contributions to their donation center.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region
If you believe that with the right amount of support, every child can reach their greatest potential, Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to hear from you. As one of the most successful non-profit organizations in the region, they’ve paired thousands of children in need of a positive adult influence with mentors.
“Littles” range from 6 to 18 years old and come from every type of background and socio-economic level. The one thing they all have in common is the desire to be paired with a “Big” who can offer them the friendship and guidance to grow into successful adults.
Volunteers are asked to devote only a few hours each month while remaining ready to lend a kind word or ear at a moment’s notice.
